11 Jul 2009
On 11 and 12 July, over 36,000 people visited the Mayor's Newham Show for two days of free summer fun.

We started the weekend with a colourful carnival which involved more than 500 Newham school children. A variety of activities, music and dance acts as well as food and sports were on offer to local residents.  The Mayor and Councillors even took part in the sliding bum race!

Commenting on the weekends activities, Mayor of Newham Robin Wales said:

“This weekend shows what Newham is all about: getting together, having a good time and celebrating our diverse community.   The Town Show provides free entertainment for all the family and gives people the opportunity to find out more about their local area.

This year we focused on my Contract with the people of Newham (click here for more information) and the response we got was great.  Whether it’s free school meals, a 0% Council Tax increase or the best programme of free events in the country (including the town show), Labour is delivering in Newham."
