Cleaning up Burges Road

You are here: Home / News / Local news / Cleaning up Burges Road

31 Jul 2009
The grounds of St Pauls Church in Burges Road were spruced up as part of the Government's Community Payback Scheme - Justice Seen, Justice Done.

The scheme is a partnership between the Police and Council which makes low-risk offenders serve sentences which repay the local community.

Under the programme, we'll get 3000 hours of service.  The areas improved are being chosen by you.

Work undertaken included digging out overgrown weeds, painting the fences and cutting overgrown hedges.

Wall End ward Councillor Ted Sparrowhawk, after visiting the site, said:

"It's great to see this work has been carried out and that our local community is benefitting from the Payback scheme.  It complements the work being done by the Council to make our area an even better place to live."
