25 Nov 2009
The Working Neighbourhood Fund is granted by the Department of Communities to help local Council's tackle unemployment.

It will boost existing programmes like Workplace - a Council scheme which puts unemployed residents in touch with employers.  To date, 3000 people have been helped into jobs, 75% of who were previously unemployed.

In particular, the investment from our Labour Government will help residents benefit from the opportunities presented from the Olympic Games and Stratford City developments.

Mayor Robin Wales welcomed the investment saying: "this funding is a big boost and will help us ensure local people benefit from the opportunities on the way.  We'll also continue to make sure that people are better off in work than on benefits."
