Riaz has been a Councillor in Newham since 1990 and he has represented Boleyn ward since 2006. He has lived in the borough for over 22 years with his family.
Since becoming a
Councillor Riaz has held a number of positions within the Council. He has currently the Mayor’s Executive Adviser for Safeguarding and Corporate Parenting.
In 1998/99 Riaz served as the ceremonial Deputy
Mayor of Newham and in 1999/2000 the ceremonial Mayor.
Riaz's personal
interests include reading and cycling and walking in Newham’s
parks and open spaces. He wants to help make sure that more people use
public transport and that the 2012 Olympics are the best ever, most
of all for the people of Newham.
