Jose Alexander was born in Singapore and has lived in London since 1975. He was educated at St.Xavier’s college in Kerala, India and gained a qualification in Business Administration.

He has actively participated with various community organisations and is a former President of the Kerala Catholic Association of the UK. Jose has co-ordinated to set up a five-a-side football team in 2007 named Kerala Sports Club whom currently competes in the Newham Mayor's Futsal League. Jose was elected Chair of the East Ham community forum and former secretary of the Unite Trade Union for the disabled people at Remploy in Barking. Jose currently serves as a Unite National Diversity Forum member for the Remploy to promote diversity & equality polices at work place.

Jose was elected as a Labour Councillor for East Ham North ward at the 2010 local elections. Jose believes that Newham's diversity is one of its greatest strengths and enables people to work together to create a fairer and more active community. He wants to work with his Labour colleagues to increase activity in the area and to ensure the area keeps getting cleaner, greener and safer.
